when can you "MD" to your name and your e-mail signature?

I have seen several people add MD to their e-mail signature? When can you start doing that legally in the US? I am ECFMG certified doc but am still preparing for step 3 - am I elgible for an MD title.

Appreciate your feedback and any links pointing to any offcial word on this. Thanks guys!!
