hi
I have been on this site from a long time ( with different names though :-) )
took my step 3 on 7th/8th aug......got my result today, and with Gods grace i passed !!!!.....83/203
its a wonderfull fealing
thank you all for your updates here, which did help me sail through this exam.
here is my experience of step 3, nd i hope it helps prospective step 3 takers:
i studied for 3 months, 6 hours/ day ( i am not a resident )
read no text books.
UW ( twice), crush ( some sections ), swanson ( some important topics only, like sports medicine, geriatrics, ) Uw ccs (4 times), first aid ccs (once).
exam q were very vague
had 5 blocks from emergency care nd remaining were opd based.
vague q were mainly opd based, emerg. based q were straight forward.
45% of my exam was gen. medicine
a lot of psychiatry....( pl. prep. it well )
ob/gy was very easy nd staright ( it can be the scoring point )
almost every blok had a picture q, for which we can not really prepare, but still pl. do ur dermat. well. lot of q from there.
timing is very imp. long q, though first day was cool, second day i had to scroll down to read the q.
all ccs cases were Not from UW. ( so pl. also read first aid )
the secret of performing well in CCS is to practise every case on the soft ware, its time consuming but worth it.
i felt ccs was the only sections in which i knew what was happenig. two of my patients did not improve, but i am sure i gave the right treatment.
rest all improved. I would suggest very body to prep. well for ccs and to be ready for some odd cases, which one has not prepared. pl. do not mess up this section.
in the end all i can say is dont take this exam lightly, also dont try to read a lot of books or material. because q are so vague i dont think any text books is going to help. just pick up one q bank ( i suggest UW) nhd ready it twice. nd prep. ccs.
if nay one has any further q i would be more than happy to help .
good luk every body
