CVS is generally a safe procedure but some complications include:
1. miscarriage: higher with transcervical (TC)than transabdominal (TA) approach.
2. Birth defects: independent of the operator skill, route of procedure, gauge of needle used. It is genreally associated with age of gestation at eh time the procedure is performed. Generally safe after 10 weeks of gestation.
3. fetal blood loss into maternal circulation.
4. vaginal bleeding: higher with TC than TA
5. infecction: rare cause with aseptic precautions now.
