A 40 year male comes in complaining of soreness in the PIP joint of his second digit that has worsened over the past two days. He recently had an extensive workout in the gym. He has taken some ibuprophen without any relief. On exam you notice that he has tenderness on the posterior and lateral aspect of his second digit. You also find tenderness to the touch of the lateral posterior aspect of his hand and the lateral forearm to his lateral epicondyle. There is pain when flexing but not extending his finger. There is no increased warmth in the joint and the other hand is not affected. Muscle strength appears normal. What is/are the potential diagnosis and treatment?
