Very SINCERE and TRUE advise needed

My non-immigrant visa (thus my stay in USA) is expiring on April 16th. I had applied for my visa extension with USCIS about 40 days before. I, 30 days ago, have received a letter "Notice Of Action" from them which states that "my application for visa extension has been received". But until now, I have not received any letter of approval or denial of my visa extension from USCIS.

My concern is that "If I do not get any letter(approval or denial) regarding my visa extension till April 16th, will my stay beyond April 16th in USA be unlawful? In this situation(short-time-period), what should I do? Should I leave the USA before April 16th? I have to apply for Adjustment of Status(family-based immigration) 3 or 4 months latter from now. So, I do not want to leave the USA.

I need a very very sincere advise. You can refer me to an exceptionaly good Immigration Attorney in New York.
