a 42 yr old night club singer who smokes heavily and drinks a moderate amt. of alcohol complains of episodes of hoarseness for 2 mths. associated with an occasional dry cough. the most recent episode has lasted for 3 wks. in the initial care of the patient, which one of the following would be most appropriate:

a) direct laryngoscopy under GA
b) chest x-ray
c) voice rest for 2 wks
d) indirect laryngoscopy
e) cough suppressants for 1 wk
