What you say is not true. The reason less American students are getting into medical schools is because of the health care expenses rocketing and shut down thousands of hospital beds and the feds who pay for medical
education/residency programs cut down their budgets, also they found there is an "excess" of doctors.
Now here is the paradox: There are lot of place sin the US where there are no health care providers not even a Nurse practitioner.IMGs though they have to leave the country after they complete residencies go to areas where no
American born mds do not want to go.Do you know what the FEDS call these areas? Health Professional shortage areas(HPSA).Moreover 90% of the IMGS go into primary care specailities where no American MD want to
go(because it pays less).
If you dont believe this I can give you tons of articles/publications from JAMA,NEJM, Department of Health and Human Services etc. Lastly i havent heard of an American born MD that cant get into residency programs.Every
year lot of not attractive specailities residency positions go unfilled not even IMGs.if you want more info go to NBME site. Now i can understand your feeling about immigrants coming to your country. Isnt every one in US
descendant of an immigrant? At least these people are qualified and serving underserved population-your fellow citizens.
