10. A 29-year-old African American woman presents with nonspecific symptoms, including malaise and mild subjective fever. A chest x-ray reveals bilateral enlarged hilar lymph nodes (“potato nodes”) with mottling of the lungs. Laboratory evaluation finds elevated serum levels of calcium and angiotensin-converting enzyme. No organisms are found with any cultured material. A biopsy from her enlarged lymph nodes most likely would reveal the presence of what abnormality?

A. Caseating granulomas
