I dont mean to contradict but i think i read that corticosteroids donot actually activate the osteoclasts but inhibit osteoclast formation and activity thus lowering plasma Ca , over long periods they cause increase bone resorption and decreased bone formation by inhibiting protein synthesis in the osteoblasts which decreases bone formation , and also dec absorption of Ca and PO4 frm the intestine and increase renal secretion of these ions.
