Recombinant means that it is manufactured using genetic technologies, such as introducing a vector with factor-8-DNA into certain bacteria which then start synthesizing factor 8.
In the past, factor 8 was obtained from human blood donations which of course can be infected with all sorts of viruses, not just HIV.
