It's very sad, but it has long been known that multiple attempts kill your chances of getting a spot. Even if the end result is average, like yours. USMLE doesn't tell what kind of doctor you are, but nobody cares. You have to be able to do well on this exams or you will have problems on Board exams and residencies want to have 100% passing rate 1st attempt. This is why they do pay attention to it. They are interested in your ability to take computerized tests.
I don't know, it's been known for years but each year there are so many people who discover this sad situation for themselves. This is way I did advise people with multiple attempts in the past to go to a medical school or do something else rather then waste your time and money. I wish you luck.This game is not over. You still could do research and hopefully find a program that would accept you if you have publications. Or you may just get lucky and get a spot with the credentials that you have, but still it would be beneficial to have Step 3 done as soon as possible.
