Even with tuition costs an American medical school beats any international school and the hassle that ensues when trying to get a US residency spot. If your son dreams of a competitive specialty in the US, I strongly suggest you get him here ASAP. He is in his 3rd year now, so make sure he passes his step 1 with an excellent score and try to get him into an US medical school in the second or third year, whatever he can get into. If that fails, have him re-apply to an US school and get him to repeat his 2 or 3 years. Believe me it is worth it. It took me nearly 8 years to finally pass all my USMLE steps and get a residency position, if I had known it was gonna be that hard I would have applied for medical school instead, and in 8 years I would have been done with school and residency. You may still do something for your son, don't waste any more time and take action ASAP. Best of luck to you and your son
