applying for a fellowship first. i know for a fact there are many unfilled positions in cardio-vascular surgery. after you finish your fellowship you may have a much easier time getting into surgery residency and being able to practice. check out some programs with fellowships in CV surgery, especially in Texas. best of luck to you
