Hello all. I am an IMG with residency in OBGYN from home country; matched with a program in Internal Medicine this year after trying for the past 3 years (thank God!). Now however, I feel like I miss Gynae AND also, will need to study a lo...t since IM is so vast- this is especially difficult since I have a child at home. I think I want to try for a Gynae spot this year. The PD is very nice to me and gave me a out of match spot (post-match) due to increased positions. So I am obligated to him in a way but hope that he might understand. I don't however know for sure, how he is going to take it! Will he give me an LOR? Also, does anyone know what happens in case you don't match anywhere while you are already pursuing PGy-1? Can you continue to your PGY-2 with the same/original program? What has been the general experience (PD reactions etc)for people who may have done this i.e changed specialties after one year? Any inputs appreciated.
