Japanese groups or programs directors, and if there are people with names that would suggest Japanese origin, they are most likely born in the US and thus Americans of Japanese origin. Here is the thing - be careful what you say or ask because asking for residency positions and getting a job based on someone's origin is discriminatory to others and thus illegal. not to mention that the program directors are very likely to report you to ERAS for unethical conduct and you may end up banned from matching in the US
