One Japanese lady with acceptable English graduated from internal medicine last year. If you did not study medicine in English (Chinese Japanese, Russian, European), you have to have something outstanding (publication, PHD,good English), some programs like to have residents with PHD degree, to show that my program is good, to attract PHD. If the program director had MD. PHD, they like those MD PHD candidates, it does not matter if you graduate 10 years ago or not (the 5 years limit in many programs now). Nowadays, every 100 India/Pakistan residents in the US , might have 5 Chinese (mainland), 0-1 Japanese doctor. I guess that Japanese doctors have good income in their country, they do not like to come here.
