clinical experience in a teaching hospital( that offers residency).
try and get letters from the faculty while doing a observership/externship,whatever u get !!
Usually if u know someone(lke residnts,program coordinator,attendings etc) in the program,they can help u in getting a rotation.
Letters from faculty really help..also when u r there participate in rounds,presentations and if u can show up on weekends too.
