so here's the deal. this is probably the most important and current review for his residency program. i am a recent graduate in touch with few of the residents and what i am hearing from them is rather alarming news. you can always find out about the floors, rotations, etc from the other reviews. nothing of that has changed - to my knowledge. but what has changed is this - they have recently acquired a new PD - a rather inexperienced PD from what i hear. but thats fine. everyone has to start somewhere rite ? but here's the thing. 4 weeks after walking into the office, she has already fired one resident. now mind you, this program has a history of one resident/year being dismissed from the program. and that latest that i have heard is that the PD is using the inservice ITE exams for evaluating the promotion of the residents into the next year. so here's the bottom-line - when you go for an interview - you really need to ask these questions - how many residents get fired every year ? Is the ITE exams conducted by ABIM used for evaluating the promotion of the residents. (the ITE are an self-assessment tool only and ideally not supposed to be used for this purpose. also, you are not supposed to study for these exams as well.)
if you have already interviewed, its worthwhile to email the PD or the chief residents or the residents with these concerns. coz your future is going to boil down to the PD's LOR once you graduate. and if i were you i would not be interested in joining a prgoram obsessed about scores and interested in helping the residents. be careful before you rank you list!
