Yes, negotiate with your company in Europe to get a paid or unpaid one year time off.
If it is not possible in your current company, find another company in europe which would be willing to give you one year off,
if you get it, do prelim in US in that year, then you are all set.
You can keep applying all your life until you get 2nd year position and keep working in europe until you get contract tfor 2nd yr
