in IM it is probably q4 days for 1st yr-that means u are doctor on call for that day and u will do the admissions and u will be called on ur pager if pt needs meds for all kinds of stuff like constipation , sleep, nausea etc etc-u will have to evaluate falls, pronuonce patients at night, be called by labs with any critical labs like INR, U will be the firstto receive anything which means u have to be able to multitask. U are on call till the nextmorning at 7am and u go home at the next day 1pm after lunch/lecture. U cannot do the admission the next day but u still round on patients or u go and see patients in clinic. u cannot stay pass noon and u cannot work more than 80 hrs per week due to guidelines. u go home at noon or 1 pm but u come back the next day-calls can be real nice or busy if u have ICU admisons at night nd have to follow labs or fix patients or tey decide to code on you. It depends on program -mostly u are on call 5 times per month. may be more.
