Dear Dr. Rock,
In a unique scenario, can a residency program sponsor visa even if it take only GC/US citizens?

I met few residents from a program and they told me they will talk to their PD, even though to my knowledge they take only GC/US citizens. Should I have any hopes? I mentioned to them my visa status. Please answer.
