How can I approach local doctors?

I call several offices and asked the secretory to set an appointment for me, but they keep asking why if you are not a patient? and when I explain I need to talk to the doctor, I'm a doctor. But suprisingly they ask me hold on for a moment and they never back?
I'm just wondering what to do and how I can talk to the doctor or see her? Is it impossible in the US or any way or idea, Please?!!
